In response to social distancing restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic, the City of Springfield issued an emergency ordinance allowing restaurants to repurpose parking spaces for outdoor dining. In partnership with downtown businesses, Better Block SGF transformed several single parallel parking spaces into temporary outdoor dining spaces.

Additionally, a team of architecture students from Drury University developed a parklet design guide for local businesses to use as a resource to build their own parklets (with the required design guidelines and permit process).
