DONOR GUIDELINES

Food donations must be purchased from retailers, restaurants, farmers, and other companies that are under inspection by the Greene County Public Health department.


Acceptable Items

  • sealed packaged-foods

  • packaged cheeses

  • uncut fresh fruit

  • uncut fresh vegetables

  • packaged table sauces

  • packaged pastries

  • packaged breads

  • unopened pasteurized milk and yogurt

  • unopened fruit juices

  • fresh eggs (with a use-by date)

  • packaged cured-meats with USDA or MDA mark of inspection (in a sealed container with a use-by date); must be properly packaged and labeled "pre-cooked items"

  • cooked items must come from kitchens inspected and permitted by the Greene County Public Health department; they must also be labeled with the date of preparation and ingredients


Unacceptable Items

  • expired products

  • raw meat

  • raw milk cheeses

  • raw fish

  • packaged items not labeled with use-by date

  • opened items

  • alcohol

  • half-eaten leftovers


Please do not donate anything that you would not personally consume.

All packaged food must be in good condition to protect from potential contaminants. We cannot accept cans with dents or bulges. Food should be fully sealed and follow the above list of acceptable items.

Food must be prepared with mask and gloves and follow standardized food safety guidelines.

Restaurants donating pre-made food must label the prepared food with ingredients and date it from the day of preparation. Prepared food will be discarded after seven days.

Put new donations toward the back of the shelves, so food is consumed in the order it arrives.
